Two unique challenges are underway in the online poker establishment, which are being earnestly followed by poker fans all over the world.
The first is the Bluff Poker Challenge. This is a structured event organized by Bluff Magazine and will end on the 31st of March. The early leader Sno0owman has maintained his lead. In fact he has broken away from the pack with a total of $9,823.21. The next in line, Shaun Deeb, is at less than half the tally at $4,178.88. For a while Deeb shot in the lead and hit the $10K mark but he seems to have lost it all equally quickly.
One of the favorites to win, Soren Kongsgaard, is for all practical purposes out of the reckoning. With a tally of less than $5 he seems to have given up playing. The dark horse Maria Ho is at sixth place with a total of $550.81. It is now a small stack and she has to use it well. Maria released her latest up date today and one hoped that she would outline something of her strategy. But the video blog was about the Jennifer Harman charity event that she and Tiffany Michele are currently slated to play at Reno.
The other challenge is the durrrr Challenge between Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius. This has got stuck because neither player has the time. Dwan is leading with $140,380.5 and only 4,178 hands out of the 50,000 have been played. Dwan gave the reason for the delay.
He told PokerListings, “There have been a lot of bigger-stakes games which we both were interested in, so those take a little bit of precedence. Plus our schedules have been a little different. Hopefully we’ll get some more hands in at some point and hopefully I’ll keep running good and end up even larger.” This lead is peanuts for the high stakes that are involved in the challenge as Dwan realizes. He said, “We just haven’t played enough hands to tell and there hasn’t been anything that interesting yet.”
While Dwan and Antonius are prepared to wait it out, the poker fans are now showing signs of irritation. At durrrrchallenge.com, a specially created forum for this challenge, angry voices are beginning to be heard. There is a contest on that offers cash prizes for guessing the winner and the winning margin. For the contest to be valid Dwan and Antonius have to play at least 30,000 hands. At the moment this seems far away.
There has been a proposal to change the terms of the contest. Participants should guess how many hands the two will play before they call the challenge off. Durrrrchallenge.com put things in perspective. “Anyway, like you, we’re starting to get impatient with the players. While we know that the goal of this challenge is not to entertain the poker world, it would be nice for them to finish what they said that would finish. Let’s hope it happens…”
