What more can you ask for at the age of 70 +? Shammi Kapoor has it all – a long and illustrious career as one of India’s most successful actors who acted in films such as Teesri Manzil and An Evening in Paris, a devoted wife in the form of Neela Devi, an amazing head for the latest advances in technology and plenty of time on his hands to enjoy his favorite pastime – the internet.
Yet is seems that Kapoor has finally found the one thing that was lacking in his life – online poker. It is believed that the Bollywood star is so enamored with the game that he spends up to four hours a day discovering the ins and outs poker sites, rules and games.
“A friend of mine introduced me to it and now it has become an addiction,” said Kapoor jokingly. “I have my own group of friends who are also into it. It is challenging and fun. There are thousands and thousands of tables, and an equal number of stakes. It is an online game so it is the virtual world, so also the money it is virtual but you get a high playing for millions and millions.”
Kapoor is visibly enthralled by the concept of online poker and delights every time he discovers something new about the game. What particularly tickles the actor is the fact that online poker crosses all borders, whether cultural or age. He gave the example of his new poker pal, son of Indian filmmaker Rajkumar Kohli, the great Armaan Kohli. “I play with him as he is also hooked on to it,” said a thrilled Kapoor. “I acted with his mother Nishi Kohli about 40 years ago and now I am interacting with her son. We are online poker buddies!”
Nothing seems to be able to halt Kapoor’s online poker adventure, except a phone call for him, or a sharp word from the missus. But if the actor wins big as he intends to, maybe she won’t have anything bad to say about his latest love after all!
