The Rise of Luke Schwartz
Written by RogerCP | Wednesday, April 8th, 2009
The thing about online poker is that real persons hide behind aliases and no one knows against whom they are playing. The same thing happened with _FullFlush1_ as he raced to the top of the charts. It was a while before the poker fraternity recognized _FullFlush1_ as the London based Luke Schwartz.
Schwartz began his career at Betfair Poker about four years ago. When he started he was not very good but he managed to accumulate a bankroll by beating the yet weaker players in cash games. Recalling those days Schwartz told PokerListings, “I went broke a couple times, but I had a couple MTT wins to get me back in.”
Now Schwartz has gained the confidence to tackle the best players at the highest stakes. Therefore earlier this year he moved to the ultra high stakes tables on Full Tilt Poker. He began with a bankroll of $10,000 which he quickly converted to over a million dollars. With confidence has come brashness. He has shown scant regard for the top level pros playing at Full Tilt and does not think twice before trash talking them. He almost seems to take pride in rubbing people the wrong way. He said, “Some of these spazzes on the Full Tilt rail seem to hate me since I’ve been making their gods all look like fish. … I do have a huge heads up No Limit edge on every player on this planet.”
There is no pro that has been spared by Schwartz. He has called Dwan “durrrr-balls” and the other pros collectively as “OMGweNerds”. PokerListings asked him from where he comes up with these names and he replied. “It comes naturally when the truth stares me in the face.” Schwartz claims to be beating Dwan by about half a million dollars.
Taking a dig at Dwan he said, “I respect durrrr’s stamina and willingness to gamble, even though he’s still a nonce-cake.” He has expressed an interest to participate in the $1.5 million, 50,000 hand durrrr Challenge. But the way the first challenge is shaping up and looking at the fact there are already other contenders in line Schwartz will have to wait long to realize this dream. Schwartz has beaten David “Raptor” Benefield and Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond. He thinks poorly of the No Limit heads up game of the Dang duo Di and Hac. Surprisingly there is a player he respects and that man is Sami “LarsLuzak” Kelopuro.
Schwartz is now looking for recognition in live tournaments. His winning to date in this arena is a paltry $35k. He wants to remedy that by winning a major tournament. He plays frequently on the European Poker Tour and maybe that is where he will come good in tournaments. But this desire is not at the cost of cash games domination. His final words, “I’d like to send a lot of nits broke all over the world.”
