Poker players come together for a great cause this Christmas at the 2008 Poker Jingle. The event is hosted by Hard Rock Poker Lounge and is a benifit for the Luckemia and Lymphoma Society.
Christmas is the season for giving and the poker community has a heart of gold. Poker pros are known to turn out for charity events for a variety of causes and make significant contributions to the success of these events.
The pick of the events this festive season is the celebrity tournament being hosted by Hard Rock Poker Lounge for the benefit of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The charity event is being organized in memory of Mindy Trinidad who was well known in the poker community and who recently succumbed to leukemia. The event being called The Poker Jingle will be held on the 12th of December.
The Poker Jingle has a buy-in of $230 and is open to the public who will surely come in big numbers as much to contribute to the cause as to rub shoulders with the celebrity poker pros. The players who have confirmed their participation include hot favorites Phil Hellmuth, Andy Bloch and Todd Brunson and the poker hotties Tiffany Michelle, Jennifer Harman and Maria Ho. Full Tilt Poker Pro Erick Lindgren is doing his bit by offering a $10,000 2009 WSOP Main Event seat. Curtis & Co. is presenting the top three winners with watches from their collection. However the prize that is bound to create the greatest popular interest is that of a pearl necklace donated by Tower of Jewels for the last woman standing. Maria Ho would look great in a necklace of pearls. A party for the media will be held at 2 PM. This will be followed by a tribute to Mindy Trinidad by her friend and poker player Kelli Griggs. The tournament will start at 3 PM. Those who want to contribute to the cause but cannot make it to Las Vegas can enroll for the online version of this event at Full Tilt Poker. The event has a buy-in of $10 of which half will go to the charity and half to the pool prize. The winner will also receive a World model Curtis & Co. watch valued at $2,200.
A popular annual charity poker event is the Christmas Toy Drive No Limit Hold’em Tournament played at Casino Arizona. The buy-in is a new, unwrapped toy worth $10 or more for the children of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Last year over 1,000 toys were collected. The guaranteed prize pool is $12,500. The top 40 players will cash with the winner getting $3,100.
The Palace Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas is hosting a poker seminar to raise funds for the Adopt-A-Rescue-Pet (ARP) organization. The ARP attends to abandoned animals and finds new homes for them. In the last two years the ARP has rescued over 4,000 dogs. The seminar costs $150 and will include the beautiful Vanessa Rousso as one of the speakers. In January Full Tilt Poker will be hosting an online tournament for the benefit of the ARP. The buy-in is $10, with half going to the charity. Cyndy Violette will be hosting this tournament. Cyndy has not been in the news of late but old timers will recall her for her crush on the late Stu Unger.
