Vegas Casino Applies for Pennsylvania Poker License

After the legislation in Pennsylvania changed to allow table games at casinos across the state, there has been movement by casinos to apply for gaming licenses from authorities to include poker in their up-until-now slots-only establishments.

It was announced today that the Las Vegas Sands Corp., which runs a slots casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, has made a formal application with state authorities, seeking the approval of 80 table games, poker among them, to its casino floor.

“When the first card is dealt, Sands Bethlehem instantly becomes the most convenient gaming location for millions of New York City and northern New Jersey residents,” said the President of the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Robert DeSalvio.

The Sands currently boasts 3000 slot machines on its floor, and is seeking to add games such as craps, roulette, blackjack and poker to vary the range and provide an all-round gaming experience for players.

DeSalvio said that the addition of table games at the casino would allow the opportunity for future development and an improvement in its balance sheet. Plans are already on the drawing board for a hotel and convention center.

Pennsylvania’s reasoning to approve the addition of poker to casino floor’s was to improve a growing budget deficit. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has recently received applications from many casinos hoping to receive approval, including the Mount Airy Casino Resort which has a hearing for its bid in a day or two.

A resident of Bensalem, Pa. noted: “I love blackjack, and I can’t wait until the folks at the Gaming Control Board approve of the games at Mount Airy.”

Another public hearing for the Parx Casino is scheduled for March 10th.

The process calls for each application to have a separate hearing, with anybody who objects to the approval of the license, such as citizens and community groups, having a chance to contribute to the hearing.
