Wanted: Poker Dealers at US Casinos

Following the new law that will allow casinos in Pennsylvania to introduce table games such as poker, a number of gambling establishments have issued wanted ads for those seeking employment as table game dealers. It is believed that the new Pennsylvanian law will bring 300 to 350 new jobs to the city of Pittsburgh alone.

If casinos become licensed to allow games online this would likely change the brick and mortar job situation dramatically. While there are many US online casinos currently operating, none of them operate from the United States thus don’t project any jobs onto US citizens.

The Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, for example, put out a press release calling for the application of poker dealers and other connected job openings. The Rivers Casino has essentially divided the jobs into three main categories – managers, supervisors and dealers.

According to the casino, only those with prior knowledge of the post in a licensed casino of a similar size may apply to be managers or supervisors.

André Barnabei, the Vice President of Human Resources for Rivers Casino said: “We’re excited to officially begin recruitment for the new table games positions. These jobs represent a new opportunity for the growth and expansion of Rivers Casino as well as the city of Pittsburgh.”

To become a poker dealer at the casino, potential employees will need to have prior experience or attend a course that will teach them the fine art of dealing. The course, which will run from four to ten weeks, will start in April, and will prepare dealers for an interview with the Rivers Casino.

“We’re looking for the best candidates who have prior experience in gaming,” said Barnabei, “as well as individuals who demonstrate superior initiative, have customer-friendly personalities, a great smile, high energy and are willing to learn a new skill set.”

It is not yet certain how many poker tables the Rivers Casino will be offering on its casino floor as the decision still rests with the Gaming Board. However, it is safe to say that poker will be a big hit at this establishment, along with the craps, roulette and blackjack games the casino hopes to introduce as well.
