Will Neteller Close Down to USA Online Poker
Written by Roger S | Sunday, October 22nd, 2006
The threat of ewallet providers like Neteller closing is weighing on the back of minds of USA internet poker players.
Neteller is the most widely used deposit method for poker players in the USA. Poker players have been monitoring the situation very closely because if Neteller shuts down that will limit their depositing options dramatically.
Neteller has issued press releases saying that they will have to comply with USA law and no longer accept transactions when the time comes.
In the press release they said they would do so not because they were a US based company, as they are not, but because they want to protect their shareholders.
The extent to which Neteller is responsible and to exactly how they must comply will not come until up to 270 days when the Secretary of Treasure of the issues specific regulations. Neteller is still allowing deposits into poker rooms accepting USA players. Casinos will also be accepting some USA players.
Many Neteller users saw this coming because it is a public company. The ewallet providers will probably act in the same way the poker sites have acted. The public companies will back out while the non-public companies continue business as usual. Western Union is also expected to become very important in the upcoming months for poker players.
The latest press release issued by Neteller was on Oct. 19 regarding the issue and we expect to see another one here shortly.
