According to the World Poker Tour (WPT), poker player and personality, Matt Savage will become the Executive Tour Director, a role especially created to incorporate him into the organization. There has been incredible support to have Savage join the tour, with many top poker celebs and players tweeting their congratulations.

“Matt is one of the world’s foremost experts on poker tournaments,” said the Chief Executive Officer of the World Poker Tour, Steve Heller. “Matt’s expertise and relationships in the poker community will greatly enhance our upcoming ninth season.”

This is the first time that Savage has served in an official capacity as part of the WPT, although he has served as director of some of WPT’s events such as the Shooting Star No Limit Hold ‘em bounty.

“I am excited about this opportunity to work with WPT as their Executive Tour Director,” said Savage. “The World Poker Tour is one of the most respected and recognizable brands in poker and I am happy to be a part of its efforts to improve tournament poker for players, fans and casinos.”

In the meantime, Savage is being kept busy involved in a number of other projects that don’t involve the World Poker Tour. He will continue to direct tournaments in Los Angeles and San Jose, as well as the Detox Poker Series in Las Vegas in August.

Matt Savage is one of the industry’s most recognized and highly popular personalities and has an intimate knowledge both as administrator and player.

He has appeared in hundreds of poker shows on television and acted as tournament director of the World Series of Poker. Asked recently whether he preferred the role of top director or top professional player, Savage said: “One is attainable for me and the other is not! I’ll stick to what I am best at!”
