One of the most sought after titles, the WPT Championship, is ready and set to begin in a matter of hours.
The World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship is ready to get under way as all the elite poker pros fill the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada for the final event. The event is being held from April 24th-28th.
The WPT staff is now estimating there to be a potential of 600+ entries to be made for this years Championship. The entry fee for this tournament is an astounding $25,000. At this expected entry rate there will be 3 players to win over 1 million dollars in the Championship event.
This year’s field will consist of all previous 2006 WPT winners and many more poker pros. This year’s winners will receive a free entry into the event courtesy of the WPT. The younger guns commonly referred to as the “Brat Pack” will be facing off veterans of the WPT such as Daniel Negreanu, and Paul Phillips. The Brat Pack is named so because they are under the age of 30 and were made millionaires through their high placing in WPT events throughout the year.
Phil Ivey will also make his showing at this years WPT Championship as the player who has made it to the most WPT final tables. His record is now 6 with his closest competitor being Gus Hansen at 5. Both are known for their domination and extremely aggressive poker styles.
The defending champ, Tuan Le, is also expected to be there. While his goal is to set a record and win two consecutive WPT events he has a very difficult task in front of him. He will be going through tough opponents such as Erik Lindgren a multiple time winner of the WPT.
This years WPT Championship is sure to create buzz in the air with all the players filling up the Las Vegas strip. We will likely see an action packed week with new millionaires to be made.
