Hard Rock Casino Granted Atlantic City Approval

hardrockWith only weeks to go before it is due to open its long-awaited hotel and casino in Atlantic City, the Hard Rock was granted a casino license for gambling by New Jersey’s gambling authority. The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City is slated to open its property in June and will take the spot of the former Trump Taj Mahal.

Speaking to the Casino Control Commission, the chairman of Hard Rock, Jim Allen, said that he hopes that the new casino would bring many new tourists to Atlantic City, and he was banking on the $30 million entertainment budget earmarked for the casino to play a big part in the plan.

“The brand itself is about entertainment,” Allen said. “Within these amenities we certainly offer hotel, dining, and other experiences. But there is one universal language and that’s music. We are the only brand that works to bring people together through music.”

The casino has so far hired 3,200 people after receiving over 50,000 applications. Of those, around 850 are residents of Atlantic City. The first people to be invited to the job fair were former employees of the Taj Mahal.

The $500 million project will include many new features, including a night club, VIP lounges and luxury finishes such as crystal glass ceilings and marble pathways.

Allen said that it was important to make sure that “guests got to come see something completely new and redone.”

Also due to open in Atlantic City on the very same day that the Hard Rock will open its doors is the Ocean Resort Casino. Allen didn’t seem fazed by the expected competition and simply said that he thought that Ocean Resort was “very smart to try to open as close to us.”

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino has no plans to ‘steal’ customers from existing Atlantic City casinos and instead hopes to attract new visitors.
