Online Poker Powerhouses Vie for Biggest Tournament

partypokerTwo online poker giants, PokerStars and PartyPoker are running simultaneous tournaments in September in a bid to woo players with multimillion dollar prize pools. Both online poker operators announced their monster series, including dates and rewards up for grabs, and players will be spoiled for choice next month.

The PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) has been scheduled to run from September 2nd to September 17th, and there is a whopping $70 million up for grabs. All players are catered for in this very popular tournament, with practically every buy-in level available. The main events – two in number – also reflect this policy of catering to all players. There is a $55 buy in main event where winners can share the $1 million prize pool, or the $5,200 buy in event with $10 million up for grabs.

Not to be outdone, PartyPoker announced that it will be running its own monster tournament, and has scheduled the Powerfest Online Poker Series from September 2nd to 23rd. PartyPoker has promised 670 online poker events during the tournament, with all levels of players finding their niche. Buy in prices range from just $1.10 to $25,500.

Players can look forward to a $5,200 buy in Super High Roller event with a $1 million prize pool on September 3rd or the $25,500 Super High Roller event with its $3 million prize pool on September 20th.

It is expected that many online poker players will be zigzagging between the two sites in order to get in the best action to suit their bankroll size and playing preferences.

In the meantime, starting this week, players will be able to win $50K worth of PartyPoker Powerfest tournament tickets by playing cash games until the September 1st cutoff date. Satellites are also offering entries into series events.
